Preferred Vascular Group's Northeast Ohio Offices Introduce the Revolutionary, Minimally Invasive Shoulder Embolization Procedure – TAME – to Address Shoulder Pain from Frozen Shoulder and Rotator Cuff Issues

Preferred Vascular Group’s three Northeast Ohio offices in Cleveland and Akron are excited to announce the official launch of Shoulder TAME (Transcatheter Arterial Micro-Embolization). The highly innovative, minimally invasive procedure offers a non-surgical lifeline to individuals suffering from chronic, debilitating shoulder pain — such as frozen shoulder and rotator cuff tendinopathy — who have found no lasting relief from physical therapy, medications, or cortisone injections.

Chronic shoulder pain is frequently driven by neovascularization — the development of abnormal, overactive blood vessels and tiny, hyper-sensitive nerves that constantly fuel inflammation and intense nighttime pain. During the 1-hour outpatient Shoulder TAME procedure, an interventional radiologist guides a small catheter through a tiny incision in the wrist or groin directly to the small arteries surrounding the shoulder. Tiny particles are then released to gently reduce blood flow to these abnormal vessels, instantly calming the inflammatory process and alleviating pain signals without the need for general anesthesia or a hospital stay.

The Northeast Ohio Shoulder TAME rollout is being pioneered and directed by Maharshi Rajdev, MD, a board-certified vascular and interventional radiologist and the region’s highest-volume physician for musculoskeletal embolization procedures. Dr. Rajdev brings an elite medical pedigree to the program, having completed a surgical internship at the Mayo Clinic, serving as Chief Resident at Case Western Reserve University/University Hospitals, completing a fellowship at the University of Virginia, and previously serving on the medical faculty at the Cleveland Clinic.

“For years, patients with severe frozen shoulder or chronic rotator cuff issues felt trapped between temporary cortisone shots and invasive surgery requiring months of painful rehabilitation,” Dr. Rajdev explained. “Shoulder TAME completely changes the paradigm. By safely targeting the underlying inflammatory blood vessels, we are able to shut down the pain generator at its source. Most patients experience substantial, long-term relief and a rapid return to daily activities within just a few days — all achieved through a tiny puncture site that requires nothing more than a small bandage.”

The safety and efficacy of shoulder embolization is backed by an expanding body of high-quality clinical evidence, including a landmark 2026 systematic meta-analysis pooling data across 12 medical studies. The data demonstrate massive, clinically meaningful improvements in joint mobility, functional outcomes, and a drastic reduction in refractory nighttime pain, maintaining a highly favorable safety profile with zero reported major complications.

Shoulder TAME is available for patients at all three of Preferred Vascular Group’s accredited Northeast Ohio locations:
